When does recruiting start?

College coaches are always watching, but communicating with college coaches begin at different times

  • Division I – September 1st of athletes Junior Year
  • Division II – June 15th of athlete Sophomore Year
  • Division III – Contact any age / January 1st of Junior Year for Invites
  • NAIA – Contact any age / January 1st of Junior Year for Invites

8% of all high school players will play in college – 1% of the once who play in college will play D1

How to decide what’s best for me?

  1. Am I ready for the commitment of college athletics?
  2. Am I good enough to play a college sport?
  3. What level am I most qualified to play at?
  4. What schools and programs fit my academic needs and interest the most?

Research & Make List – Have a Plan!

Cast a wide net and make target list!

  1. 5 safety schools: schools you’ll academically qualify and potentially play
  2. 10 target schools: schools you’ll really put your focus into and are good matches
  3. 5 reach schools: schools to strive for even if they seem too costly or athletically competitive

Always include a mix of division levels in your target list. You may be surprised which division level is right for you, and it maximizes your opportunity to get a college athletic scholarship.
